Sensor Package

An array of sensors for the seasoned explorer.

Category:
tool
Description:

Basic (Idem portable sensor array)

The basic package has the following sensors: atmosphere sensors that can determine if there are any toxins present, a radiation sensor, an altimeter, a compass, and an air pressure sensor. Also includes video and audio sensors, with an eight-hour recording time. Electromagnetic sensors are also installed, although they only scan for large/high-power sources or interference. The navigation equipment gives you a +1 to navigation checks on land (assuming you are already trained in the skill).

This package can be mounted on the wearer’s arms and helmet/shoulder (for the camera), or integrated directly into a suit of armor with a DC 20 craft (mechanical) and craft (electronic) check. Includes a small screen, and can also output to a HUD, display glasses/contacts, or a normal monitor. If the overall unit gets too heavy, it is common to mount it on a tripod (PDC 5, weight 3 lbs) and carry it to station it at various locations.

Upgrades

Combat Readiness

Combat readiness installs a small artificial intelligence program, to give the user warnings and help them track targets. Gives a +1 initiative bonus when installed.

Requires: Either ladar or sonar.
Purchase DC: 13
Weight: N/A

Ladar

Plays low-powered lasers over the user’s environment, and uses laser detectors and ranging sensors to locate targets. Provides a +1 to perception checks, assuming the target crosses line of sight. The more expensive version increases this to +2. Can be combined with sonar. Does not work underwater.

Requires: Basic Package
Purchase DC: 15 (+ 1), 19 (+ 2)
Weight: 1 lb.

Sonar

By emitting sound waves and measuring how long they take to echo back, this device can locate targets. Provides a +1 to perception checks. Also works underwater. This bonus stacks with that provided by ladar.

Requires: Basic Package
Purchase DC: 15
Weight: 1 lb.

Map-making Software

This additional software allows the user to produce maps of areas they pass through. These maps are in three dimensions, although they often are viewed as a “two dimensional” top down view, for ease of use. Grants a +2 on Navigation when used, like any other map. However, this does require the use of advanced sensors.

Requires: Ladar or Sonar
Purchase DC: 10
Weight: None

Simulation Software

An addition to the map-making software, this allows the user to combine data from audio, video, and ladar/sonar sensors to create a simulation of passed-through areas, which can be used as a virtual-reality environment through the use of display goggles/contacts, or a viewed on a standard screen. (A Lai or other robot may also experience these through a direct data link.) Not all details are available in this simulation, however. While the architecture will be mostly correct, things like the title of a book on the shelf will not be available unless the camera happened to catch it.

Requires: Map-making Software

Satellite Datalink

Explorers out in the field need to access vast amounts of data, much larger than they can carry with them. This upgrade allows access to an orbital ship/station/satellite’s database and sensors, thus gaining any circumstance bonuses that might apply. Also a more reliable way of contacting an orbiting craft, being higher-powered and thus less prone to interference than personal communication devices and other small radios.

Requires: Basic Package
Purchase DC: 13
Weight: 3 lbs.

Motion Sensor

Allows the detection of motion in an area, including through thin walls and around small obstacles. Plots the location of moving targets relative to the location of the motion sensor. (Currently provides no +number mechanical benefit, but is useful for tracking targets nonetheless.) Objects must be moving a certain amount to be detected; particularly slow-moving objects will not be detected.

Requires: Basic Package
Purchase DC: 17
Weight: 1 lbs.

Mineral Detection

Can scan a sample of minerals to determine which minerals it is composed of. This process takes 2 minutes.

Requires: Basic Package
Purchase DC: 14
Weight: 1 lbs.

Advanced Chemical Detection Software Package

Unlocks further features of your Idem Basic Sensor Package. Chemical vapor scanner can now break down exactly what chemicals, dangerous and non-dangerous, the surrounding vapor is composed of. This process takes 2 minutes.

Nightvision

Adds nightvision capabilities to the video sensor, granting the user darkvision out to 60 ft.
